It was originally made with the same procedure and tobacco leaves that the brand Punch, a brand that was being used by Fidel Castro in Cuba to produce cigars, previously owned by the Cifuentes dynasty. In 1971, Ceneral Cigar introduced a brand, with it's own blend of Macanudo cigars.
