Cuban cigars Illegal
Are Cuban cigars illegal? Is the first question you should ask when thinking of trying out the best cigars in the world.
Why? Because the answer is yes! The prohibition even extends to buying cigars outside the United States and smoked outside the US, which is pretty ridiculous. How can the states police it's citizens abroad? Cuban cigars are available in Mexico, Spain, England, all over Europe, and pretty much all over the world. How will US know if a citizen smoking in Switzerland purchased cigars made from a Cuban factory and not from anywhere else? It's gonna be a law hard to enforce, that's for sure.
People are already giving the 250,00 dollar fine a solution, a non-American makes the purchase.
Another problem the authorities are facing is the internet. How are they gonna convince the whole world to make Cuban cigars illegal?
Sites from other parts of the world are working like any other business selling cigars, so the authorities must now solve the riddle of avoiding their citizens in the US or abroad to purchase from these sites.
They are gonna have to laboratory check all cigars being imported to see if they were produced or even partly produced in Cuba. Which of course brings a series of additional complications, as many non-Cuban cigars are produced with tobacco leafs from the island, and these cigars are also illegal.
Fortunately, the cigars made with seeds from Cuba but that were grown outside the island are safe from the ban.
Also, a 10 year imprisonment is possible if you are caught in the illegal activity of smoking a cigar. Again, they are going to have to check if the Cigar is, in fact, Cuban.
Some humidifiers have unbranded cigars in them, expensive humidifiers have some of the best cigars as samples, many of these could be Cuban because they are very good cigars; are they going to laboratory check every unbranded cigar brought to the US? That will be a tremendous feat.
Some web sites in Canada are not allowed to sell Cuban cigars in the Canada provinces, but these same sites can sell the cigars anywhere in the world.
A more accurate legislation is needed or a lot of injustices will be made and the government will not reach the goal they are seeking.
Even if the American tourist is not in Cuba, they will have to double check all the products they purchased for the origin of the product and different manufacturers, as the law extends to all things Cuban, and an innocent rag doll purchased could suddenly mean 10 years behind bars.
Although Cuban cigars are illegal in the US, the island has increased production to meet the demand which keeps going up. Cuban exportation of their cigars seem not to be affected by the US ban.
