Cohiba Cigars

Cohiba cigars are recognized as the best cigars in the world. The brand name has a wild history of legal battles, power and money. You can get Cohiba cigars just about anywhere, but that is because there are more imitations than the original brand. If you plan to purchase some Cohiba Cigars you are going to learn a lot about how to spot fakes so you can be sure to distinguish those from the originals.

First, the simples is the difference between the Cuban Cohiba cigars and the Dominican Cohibas. After the Cuban revolution, the owners of the brand fled to Dominican Republic and after a while started to produce Cohibas. Cuba also started production, giving origin to two brands. Copyrights became a mess, and one allowed a Cohiba brand to be used only in the Dominican Republic. This third brand imported its product with the Cohiba name to the US but has nothing to do with the other two.

The Cuban Cohiba cigars have a yellow, black and white band. Also the words "La Habana Cuba" are written on in.

The Dominican Cohiba cigars produced by the former owners have a red black and white band with the 'o' in the word Cohiba in red.

Now, to spot fake Cuban Cohibas cigars look at the box. Many boxes that use fakes are low quality boxes. The real Cohibas are hand made. Look carefully at the seals as they can be the only indicators, the new seal is dark green, pretty much the color of US currency. The seals of the real boxes conceal micro printing legends, only visible with the aid of a powerful magnifying glass that reads "SELLO DE GARANTIA REPUBLICA DE CUBA", check if it's not broken and that the micro legend is visible. Use the aid of infra red light to examine the seal, original seals show the serial numbers in black and the letters in red. Also, exposed to ultraviolet light very, very mildly, the Cuban republic coat of arms appears in the middle. Some counterfeiters are using the same Cuban boxes, so telling them apart is impossible. The only thing you can do is look at the codes in the boxes. These codes are under a burned seal and have the names of the factories that produced the cigar, if the factory in the box does not produce your brand, then you have a fake.

Cohiba Cigars are also illegal in the US, so you will be very luck indeed if someday, after all these obstacles are dodged you get to smoke a real Cuban Cohiba cigar.
